FINANCIAL POLICY

Dr. Winbush is an out-of-network provider with all insurance carriers. She is in the process of opting out of Medicare. This decision came after much deliberation and is informed by her experience working within insurance-based medical systems. Dr. Winbush believes that high-quality, effective, personalized medical care that includes holistic and integrative approaches should be widely available. She strives to make the care she provides accessible to as wide a range of individuals as possible and is continually working to make her services and holistic care accessible and sustainable. She regularly participates in community events providing holistic health information and education and actively seeks partnerships and funding to increase care accessibility.

Why are we out of network with insurance companies?

Participation in insurance plans imposes a large administrative burden. A direct-pay arrangement means that I spend my time treating patients rather than doing paperwork, and therefore you pay for the patient care that is important to you rather than the paperwork that is not. It allows me to remain more focused on you while keeping costs down.

Insurance companies also dictate the type of care that is covered often excluding Individualized and intensive lifestyle coaching and support, functional medicine and diagnostic testing. These strategies are foundational and effective in supporting individuals to make shifts to support their health and well-being. In addition, the high administrative costs incurred by insurance billing and the low reimbursements provided by many insurance companies make it unsustainable for small independent practices. We continue to seek ways to make our services accessible to people across the income spectrum. Please read below for more details.

Will any of my care be covered?

  • Functional medicine and craniosacral therapy are generally non-covered services. We can make no guarantees on coverage. You can call your insurance company to see if they offer coverage for an out-of-network provider. If so, they may reimburse you a percentage of the services rendered. We will happily provide you with a SuperBill to submit to your insurance company.

  • Our practice is set up to accept HSA/FSA cards, credit card payments, Venmo, and Zelle.

  • Payment for clinical services is due at or before the time of service unless alternate arrangements have been made.
